Being Righteous

Do we have a righteousness? We have none of our own.

People need a righteousness to get rid of guilt and have peace. By doing such goodness things, people feel safe and secure. Do they?

The righteousness belongs to God only, and His righteousness given to us when we accept and receive Jesus as savior who died at the cross in order to save our lives and have an everlasting life. For His righteousness abides in Him. and everyone, through Holy Spirit, who accept and believe in Jesus Christ will be justified and called the righteous. (Romans 3:21-31)

Fear

I have learnt how to understand fear as our weakness and strength as well and it might be used for gaining our confidence.

On a devotional meeting, i have asked my colleagues to mention one biggest fear in the life. As a result, i found various responses. Most of them put their biggest fear on their selves' image; being left behind, loneliness, acceptance, etc.

At this point, we do agree that people have their own fear in their life that might influence thought and actions toward themselves and others.

There are 3 types of fear i have learnt:

1. Fear of punishment.
This is a common fear that is caused by sin. On the Old Testament, after eating the fruit of knowledge, Adam and Eve realized they were naked and they hid. God asked Adam why he hid, and he said to God "I heard you in the garden, and i was afraid because i was naked so i hid". Adam was afraid of being condemned.

2. Fear of man.
Fear of man can be defined as being afraid of man who can do to him, such as the story of King Herod who had a fear of someone who could take his position as a king. He heard a new king was born, and he conspired to kill him, then he failed. Other story is Pontius Pilate. He was afraid of the crowd who would like to crucify Jesus Christ. Instead of announcing Jesus was innocent before the crowd, he knew the crowd would create a rebellion that might threaten his own life, he preferred to hand over the case to the crowd and washed his hands as a symbol of irresponsibility of someone's life.

3. Fear of God.
This fear can be defined as putting ourselves under God or putting Him above ourselves. It is telling us that we have to honor and respect Him wholeheartedly. Psalm 23:4 "Even though i walk through the darkest valley, i will fear no evil, for You are with me, Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me."
Even more, fear of God is a gift. Luther wrote "Ordinary people have no fear driven by honoring God". Fear of God is given by believing God through Jesus Christ who died on the cross in order to save our lives from sin.Through this way we do know who our God is and what He is capable of then we are enabled to respect and honor Him.

All these types of fear encouraging us to repent and draw us near to Him and become sons of God.

What is your biggest fear?
